Don’t Lose your Hope

Don’t Lose your Hope

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Saviour. Psalm 42:5

And now abide these three: faith, hope and love but the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor 13:13

From a Christian perspective what is the difference between hope and faith? Hope is the forerunner of faith. It is an expectation that something good would happen. Faith moves beyond this positive expectation to a firm assurance. Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the confidence of things not seen.

Sometimes we go through some bad experiences that we even lose hope. We may become tired of fighting a certain battle because we have fought it so many times and we wonder why we have to keep fighting the same battle.

The truth is that God through Christ gives us victory in every situation. We need to fill our hearts and minds with that truth. It is also necessary that we look at victory from the perspective of God. He dwells in eternity and He views our lives from that angle. For example, you may be praying for a loved one to recover from an illness only for that person to end up dying. Scripture says if it is only in this world we have hope, we are of all men to be pitied (1 Corinthians 15:19). Paul could boldly say “For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better” (Phil 1:21 NLT) Meaning if he lives, he gets the opportunity for Christ to reign in him and the opportunity to do God’s work. If he dies, he gets the opportunity to be with the Lord.

Today I want to encourage you not to lose your hope. Fix your eyes on the Lord. As you fix your eyes on the Lord, not only do you find hope returning but it gives way to faith.

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15: 13 NLT

Shalom.
