Money, Fame and Love II

The story so far: Dear Reader, today we continue our story Money, Fame and Love from where we left off. Last time, we were introduced to Yaw Mensah, the main character in the story who also is a ruthless and wealthy business man; to Ms Brew his secretary and to Chris Parker, an executive of the People’s Democratic Alliance. Today we meet Angie Mensah, the darling daughter of Yaw Mensah, along with Derek Orleans, a lawyer whom Angie is interested in. Let’s read on to find out how the story unfolds…

Angie Mensah was in her consulting room staring dreamily into space. Ever since she got into a relationship with Derek Orleans, the young handsome lawyer managed to fill her thoughts every now and then. She reached for the phone to dial his number, lifted the receiver and then on second thought laid it back in its cradle.

As if on cue the phone rang and she picked it up promptly.

‘Hello, McCarthy Medical Center’ she said.

‘Hello Angie’ the voice on the other end replied.

Angie could feel her heart doing a flip-flop.

‘Oh hi Derek’ she said as casually as she could manage. ‘How are you doing?’

‘Doing better by the moment. I was wondering if we could get together after work today.’

There was a brief moment of silence as he waited for Angie to reply. Of course, she knew too well what she was going to say. She only wanted to give the impression that she was thinking it through.

‘Sure we can’ she replied ‘but where are we meeting?’

‘You decide.’

‘What about The Diner?’

He grinned.

‘Okay. The Diner it is then. I hope 7:00 pm is fine with you.

‘Sure it is.’

‘See you then.’

‘Bye’

Angie was almost breathless by the time she hung up. She glanced at the clock on her table. Good, she had enough time to get to The Diner, which was in East Legon. Work was over anyway and she was just about wrapping up.

She went into the washroom, applied some make-up and combed her black mane of her hair so that it fell in cascades down her back. She smoothed down her skirt suit, pirouetted before the mirror and threw her hair back laughing.

‘Calm down Angie, he didn’t propose; He only asked you out’ she chided herself.

Coming back inside the room, she grabbed her handbag and made for her car, which had been parked outside.

The Diner was buzzing with activity when she got there. It had been only two weeks

since its’ opening but it was fast becoming the choice of the elite. Through the glass doors she could make out Mrs. Nancy Glover, wife of the Minister of Tourism, having dinner with a friend of hers. She spotted Derek’s black Porsche in the parking lot, which indicated that he was already there. She got down and walked up the graveled pathway to the entrance.

A smartly dressed butler swung the door open for her. Inside a waiter escorted her to the table where Derek was seated. His table was next to the window and he was feasting his eyes on the busy scenery. When she was some few paces to the table, he turned round and saw her. A smile spread across his face. He got up, pulled out a chair for her and sat down.

‘Wow Angie, I must say that you look as stunning in a skirt suit as you do in an evening gown’ Derek said, fixing a penetrating gaze at her.

Angie smiled and revealed a set of gleaming white teeth, the dimple in her chin deepening bewitchingly. Just then a soft wind blew through the window and her curtain of hair fluttered around her face lending more charm to her angelic face. When she realized his gaze was unwavering, she looked away coyly. It was as if his intense charcoal black eyes were seeing right through her.’m famished’ she said picking up the menu. ‘What about starting with the appetizers?’

‘Sure.’

He waved over the waiter and within seconds he was at their table. They both ordered a bottle of sparkling red grape wine and some spring rolls. For the main course they ordered two plates of grilled chicken served with sauté potatoes and salad. The dessert was vanilla ice cream with strawberry topping garnished with nuts.

While they ate they made small talk about work, themselves and their families. Angie discovered that Derek’s father was the famous Judge Orleans who died under very mysterious circumstances five years ago.

When Angie got home at 11:00pm her father was not in as usual. She parked her car in the garage and hoped that she would make it to her room without crashing into anyone — not even her mother. As she made a beeline for her room through the living room, her mother called out to her.

‘Angie, you could at least come over to say hi and ask about the preparations towards your father’s birthday party’ her mom said.

‘Hi mom, hope the preparations are moving on smoothly.’ Good night mom’ Angie rolled the words off her tongue and floated across to her room. She had thoroughly enjoyed herself with Derek and was currently on cloud nine and didn’t want anyone to bring her down to earth.

Within minutes she was soaking in a luxurious bubble bath and was already dreaming of ringing wedding bells.

Do you think Angie and Derek would eventually tie the knot? Visit the creative corner next two weeks on the 13th of June to find out how the story unfolds. Cheers.

They might not get married because the mysterious death of Derek’s father may be a source of concern to Angie’s parents. They might object to the marriage if Derek ever proposed. More over, Angie is too much drenched in Derek, which often times put men on caution note. They may exploit their feelings, but i doubt if it will sink into marriage.
