True Humility

True Humility

What is true humility?
Is it to walk with drooping shoulders and a head downcast?
Or to wear shabby clothes when you can afford better?

In the Bible God says
To humble ourselves, to pray and to turn from our wicked ways so He’ll heal our land
But what is the humility God requires of us?

The Jews tore their clothes and wore sackcloth

when they were sad or wanted to show repentance
They did this when they were fasting too
Is that the humility God requires of us?

And so one day God told them
Rent your hearts and not your garments
Do not bow your head like a reed
And spread out sackcloth and ashes
Loose the bonds of wickedness
Undo the heavy burdens
And let the oppressed go free

Jesus washed the feet of his disciples
To teach them that
Leadership was about service
And not just being served

So humility is an expression of the heart
An inward posturing towards God
That manifests in our actions towards others

A very important topic everyone would like to read about. Your points were very well articulated and supported by facts. But, I feel there is much more to write about this topic. Giving a palpable example that readers can relate to in their everyday life would have been the crème de la crème of the subject matter.

    My humble opinion.

Thanks for your opinion Chris and thanks for reading. This is a poem rather than an article. If I do write an article about this later, I will use the approach suggested. Thanks and God bless you.
