Are you Looking for Profit?

Are you Looking for Profit?

“I am the Lord your God who teaches you to profit and who leads you in the way you should go”. Isaiah 48:17.

Almost 2 decades ago after I finished senior high school, I saw an advertisement in the newspapers of an organization that trained people to be freelance writers. I decided to get enrolled in one of their programmes. While honing my craft, I was also on the lookout for openings in the creative writing space. However because I did not want to do anything for free, there were a number of opportunities I did not explore. My mind was fixed on how to make profit.

The way of the Lord is profitable. However, we only discover His way as we spend time with Him and listen to His voice. There are many voices speaking to us and it is very easy to be misled. This is because a certain path can seem right to us but it would end us up in destruction.

The Psalmist tells us “Blessed (happy) is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful but His delight is in the law of the Lord and on this law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaves do not wither and whatever he does prospers” Psalm 1: 1 – 3.

    Whatever he does prospers because:

  1. He has forsaken evil counsel or scornful advice. The fool says in his heart that there is no God Psalm 40:1
  2. He delights in the Word of God and meditates on it day and night.

As he does this, God speaks to Him. The whole counsel of God is revealed in His Word. As we read God’s Word, His written Word comes alive as His Holy Spirit gives us understanding.

You do not always need a prophecy from a man or woman of God. Sometimes, all you have to do is to spend time sitting at the feet of Jesus, reading His Word and He would speak to you about a situation you are facing.

After He has spoken to you, be careful to do what He said, then you would make your way prosperous (Joshua 1:8).
