Easter Meditations – Are you Weary?

Easter Meditations – Are you Weary?

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Matthew 11:28-30 MSG

Jesus calls out to us in this passage to come to Him. He wants us to come to Him just as we are- tired, worn out, burnt out, spent etc. Coming to God starts with admitting that you are tired of running around, tired of trying to figure out life by yourself. The first promise Jesus gives us when we come to Him is rest, rest from our labour and our ways. It is us, giving him the steering wheel of our lives and saying Jesus take the wheel.

But after we do that we do not mindlessly wander through life. We learn from him and learn His ways. And as we do so, we discover that in living life His way, we find rest for our souls; rest for our weary hearts and troubled minds. And as we embark on this exciting journey with Him, we realise that we are not alone. We are supported by a family of Christians who can be found all over the world. And anytime we feel weary or burdened by life, we need to lay our burdens at His feet and learn from Him.

Jesus is not just religion, He is life itself. He is not just a way but the way to God. True living starts with Him.

If you would want to accept Jesus into your heart you can say this prayer. Heavenly father, thank you for your son Jesus. Thank you for sending Him to die for my sins and to be resurrected from the grave. I come to you just as I am. Grant me the grace and power to live this life. In Jesus name. Amen.

Grace, grace, God’s grace

Grace that would pardon and set me free

Grace, grace, God’s grace

Grace that is greater than all my sins (Julia Honston 1911)

Shalom.
