But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
Psalms 3:3 NKJV

Hurray! You made it into 2021 and that is definitely something! Great, seeing you on this side.

It’s important that we start 2021 with a heart of praise and a prophetic declaration over our lives. In this year, God would be our shield, He would protect us from the onslaught of the enemy. He would be our glory, we would find favour where we don’t expect. Finally, He would lift up our heads. The challenges of 2020, may have caused us to bow our heads in sorrow, disappointment or shame. But trust God to lift up your head this year and your expectation shall not be cut short.

Here are a few pointers to keep us on course as we journey through the year.

Pray

Commit the year into God’s hands and seek His face for what He would have you do this year. God reveals His purposes to us through His Word, the Bible. He also reveals His will to us when we seek His face in prayer.

Plan

After praying, plan. Plan for the year, if you haven’t already done so. Take a few minutes or days and think about what you have decided to accomplish this year and outline on a paper (preferably in a book), the concrete steps you have to take to achieve this.

Evaluate your options

An objective may have more than one way in which it can be achieved. Evaluate your options based on the resources (time, money etc.) available to you. For example, you may decide to seek more knowledge in a certain field. You can do so either through a formal degree from an institution through in person learning, through an online degree, by taking a series of short courses or by reading more books in that area.

Commit your plans to God

After you have decided on your plans, commit them to God in prayer. Proverbs 16:3 says that commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans would succeed.

Start a Mentorship Journey

Identify someone who embodies your dreams either in the area of your career and personal development, family life or your walk with God. You could have more than one mentor for the different areas of your life or one or two individuals whose lives inspire you generally. It would be good if these mentors are people you can reach by going to their office etc. and booking an appointment with them, visiting them in their homes etc. Start your journey today or continue with it if you already have one.

Accountability partners

These are people within your circle of friends who would assist you in achieving your goals by keeping you on track. We would talk more about this in the coming weeks.

Give

It’s more blessed to give than receive (Acts 20:35). These words were spoken by our Lord Jesus Christ.  People who give are happier than those who only receive. Many have cut short their blessings because they are too focused on their lack. Give your time, money and whatever resource you can to bless another person, family, community or ministry.

Have a favour filled year.

Shalom
