Learning to Love I
We all marry with the best of expectations for our marriages. However some marriages go sour along the way; this may be because one partner becomes uncommitted to the union. What do you do when that happens? Let’s read on to glean some insights from Margaret’s story.
An interview with Mrs. Margaret Mensah (a marriage counsellor)
Early years of marriage
Aunty Margaret has been married for 33 years. In the first two years of her marriage, neither she nor her husband was a Christian. However, they decided on their roles in the marriage and that created some harmony. After the birth of her third child, Meg gave her life to Christ and became a Christian. Initially, her husband joined her in going to church but after a while, he pulled away. She mentions that her husband was never really committed in his walk with Christ and that caused a strain in their marriage.
The fun moments in the marriage included going for walks in the neighbourhood. She recollected how they would walk to buy kakro and beans (local Ghnaian dish) on Saturday mornings and how her husband would sit by her while she washed.
But things soon changed.
Challenging moments
One of the main challenges that she experienced in her marriage was that her husband was not supportive. He did not provide financial support towards the family’s expenses such as the fees of the children etc., neither did he help with disciplining the children when they went wrong. She describes him as a shadow in the house.
She was also shattered when barely four years into their marriage, she discovered that her husband had a child with another woman and that this happened just before they got married but he never disclosed it to her. What made it sad was that she was dating her husband during the time of this affair.
What made her hold on?
Initially when she discovered the affair, she was broken and wept often. At the time she made the discovery, she was pregnant with their third child. She noted that, when she came to know Jesus, her new found relationship with Christ helped her to hold on.

Awesome.. Great lessons to be learnt I believe
Let me save my bullets for the last show. I don’t want to shoot at no shadows.
Great lessons. Can’t wait for next week.
Its always best not to hold on to failures and mistakes.
Failure is not the opposite of success but rather a subset. I cant wait for the continuation….
Wow, I love your definition of failure Gifty as it not being the opposite of success but a sub set of success. So true…
Insightful!.Thank you,Mum.

Susie, please consider it.
Thanks for the suggestion and compliment
hmmmmm, one thing I dread so much as a young man is how to sustain my marriage till death do us apart. Also nothing scares me like a marriage that lasted for more than 20 or 30years landing on the rock.
I pray that the Good Lord will keep my marriage and family forever.
This message is so touching
Amen to your prayer Christian. As long as you and your wife continue to work at your marriage with Jesus in the boat, you can smile at the storm.
