It’s Your Choice – Healthy Living (I)

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in good health, just as your soul prospers” 3 John 2 NKJV

‘Healing is God’s, health is yours’. That is a statement made by someone. There are numerous places in the Bible where God promises to heal us of our sicknesses. In addition to this, there are daily wise choices that we can take to increase our chances of being healthy. In this article we are going to explore some of these choices.

Physical exercise – The benefits of physical exercise cannot be over-emphasized. The Bible notes that though godliness is profitable both in this life and in eternity, physical exercise is nonetheless of some value (See 1 Timothy 4:8 NLT).

Some of us get awed at times at the thought of a regime of exercise. We wonder, how we are ever going to be consistent if we get started at all. Physical exercise does not necessarily mean time spent at the gym though this is great, if you can afford it. Besides going to the gym, we can go brisk- walking or jogging in our neighbourhood. This choice gives us the added advantage of breathing in a lot of fresh air.

Fresh air has been found to be good for the lungs and the exposure to sunshine in the process helps to fight off osteoporosis which makes this a good choice for seniors.

We can also decide to incorporate physical exercise in our regular routine: use the stairs instead of the lift as often as you can. Use a bus at times and walk to the bus station. I remember after I had my second child, I had little assistance for the first five post-natal months. This meant I had to do a lot of things for myself and this forced me to shed a lot of pregnancy fat. However, the situation was different with the birth of the third child and ten months after she was born I had not lost as much weight. The point is that doing our own household cleaning on a daily basis, is one way of incorporating physical exercise into our regular routine. Fortunately, there are gadgets like washing machines to help with the laundry and it is advisable to invest in one where possible. You can then decide to use a professional cleaner on the weekends.

Eating healthily– This involves eating more fruit and vegetables and less carbohydrates. This is an age old method which still works! You do not have to fill up on carbohydrates when you have a good serving of vegetables on your plate or when you are going to have some fruits afterwards as dessert. It is advisable that, when we do our grocery shopping or go to the market, we buy an ample supply of fruits and vegetables so that our homes are always well stocked with these. What’s more, we can even grow these in our homes where possible. This would ensure that we are supplied with these goodies. Also when we do the gardening ourselves, that in itself is physical exercise and it is good for the body.  It is your life, live it well and take those daily choices that push you towards a happier and brighter future.

This is a very good piece. We have to stay healthy in Christ. Especially regarding the account of Daniel, the Hebrew boys. God is pleased when we enhance our selves for his glory.

I will like to add healthy thinking, free from worry and anxiety like Paul said in Philippians 4:8 King James Version (KJV)

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
