Waiting for God’s appointed Time II

In our previous post, we looked at the first part of this article. We affirmed that waiting was not an easy thing to do and that while we waited for God’s appointed time, It was necessary to have the right attitude. We discussed the need to be patient, be brazen or bold in the face of mockery and to turn our worries and fears over to God in prayer.

This article discusses four more attitudes worth adopting in the season of waiting.

Get Busy
Christians around the world are waiting for the second coming of Christ. But we are not just sitting around, waiting with bated breath. We are working our jobs, preaching, teaching, encouraging, etc. Jesus asked us to occupy till He comes (Luke 19:11 – 27). If you are a couple waiting for the fruit of the womb, one way to get busy could be to adopt or to help friends who have children raise theirs by making your home a place where they could drop off their children while they go out to get something done.

Be patient
Hebrews 6:12 encourages us not to become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Praise
Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labour of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls— yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Habakkuk 3:17-18 NKJV

This was the confession of Habakkuk and he was convinced that as he did that, God would be his strength, make his feet like the deer’s feet and enable him to walk upon his high hills.

Confident assurance
This is an assurance based on the Word of God and in the goodness of God. Psalm 89:11 says that God does not withhold anything good from those who walk uprightly. We must be confident that God hears our prayers and would answer us (1 John 5:14 -15).

Times and seasons
As we walk with God we also need to understand that God works with times and seasons. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says to everything there’s a season and a time for every purpose under the sun. Verse 11 goes on to say that God has made everything beautiful in its time. Psalm 1:3 says that the blessed man is like a tree planted by the streams of water that brings forth its fruit in its season.

God’s appointed times (kairos) are interwoven within the everyday moments of our lives (chronos) and through faith and patience, we can inherit the promises of God.
