What are you Fixed on?

“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” Genesis 15:1 NKJV

After Abram had rescued his nephew Lot, from the hands of some enemies, the Lord appeared to him and said Abram I am your shield and your exceedingly great reward. Immediately Abram, responds with what I consider to be an off-tangent question. He asks ‘Lord what shall you give me seeing that I remain childless and the one who will inherit me is my servant Eliezer of Damascus? “

God must have smiled seeing that Abram had missed the point he was making. We need to be focused, have our hearts and minds fixed, on God who is the giver and not on His gifts.

When God knows that He has our hearts, it’s easy for Him to give us other things. As an example when I met my husband, while in the university, I was not searching for a future partner. Rather we were both busy about the Lord’s work and we found each other in the process. I know that my story is not an isolated case, but one that some other people would resonate with. The principle above is affirmed by Scripture in Matthew 6:33.

There it is written, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”.

You may be desiring to get married and as such that’s all you think about. Perhaps you are desiring to have a child and you may be allowing that to consume your waking and sleeping hours. For another, it could be a job, a promotion, a house, etc? Don’t lose heart and don’t lose your peace either. Keep your heart and mind fixed on your relationship with God and what you can do for His kingdom and leave the rest to God.

David was one person who understood this order. In Psalms 16:2, he tells God, apart from you I have no good thing It’s little wonder that God describes David as a man after His own heart.

Take a moment to pause and reflect on what your heart is fixed on. Is your heart fixed on God or on your issues and problems?

Something, more than gold
I’ve got something more than gold

Something more than gold

I’ve got something more than gold

If all I’ve got is Jesus

I’ve got something more than gold

I’ll tell it to the world

Jesus is more than gold
