Have you Had your Adjustment (I)?

Have you Had your Adjustment (I)?

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think (Romans 12:2 NLT).

We come into our marriages with different perspectives and values. Often times these perspectives and values are influenced by what we saw in our homes while growing up or what we have seen in other places but have been attracted to.

However as Christians, our family values should ultimately be formulated around the timeless Word of God.

What this means is that a lot of adjustment is needed after the wedding bells are over, adjusting to our spouses but ultimately, if you are a Christian couple, we need to rework our perspectives and values so they harmonise with what the Word of God says. The dictionary defines adjust as “to alter or move (something) slightly in order to achieve the desired fit, appearance or result”. Chiropractors use this term in their practice to refer to the art and science of moving the spinal bones back into position after it has shifted from its natural position.

In some cultures, the role of a woman in the home is cooking. But the fact which is setting in is that if the husband is better at cooking than the wife or if the husband often gets home before the wife there’s nothing wrong with him preparing dinner and this is a good break away from tradition and harmonises with the Word of God ( Ephesians 5:25-30 ).

In other cultures, men may not be given to treating women gently.  In such communities, gentleness towards your wife is viewed as weakness. The Bible admonishes husbands to dwell with their wives with knowledge and to be conscious of the fact that the woman is the weaker vessel (1 Peter 3:7). A husband’s show of gentleness towards his wife should not be viewed as weakness but rather greatness. God himself is gentle towards us. In the Psalms David says of God ‘ your gentleness has made me great ‘ (Psalms 18:35). We can only build healthy marriages if we align our actions with the Word of God.

Shalom.

Had delight reading this and will be welcoming more of such words based on scriptures always.

Without God or his word,we build our life on nothing which surely collapses or fall indeed.

Many thanks and I will always be finding my way here.
